Historic District

Also known as Siete Calles District, which means Seven Streets District; it is the Old Town. You will get to see the Santiago Cathedral, Ribera Market and Arriaga Theatre. Colourful during day time, it becomes even livelier in the evening when Bilbotars begin a pub crawl through the medieval taverns, eating tapas and drinking chiquiteos (small glasses). Surrounding the vicinity, you will discover a classy residential haunt circling Plaza Nueva. These XIXth century buildings and magnificent villas (on the Ria bank) provide a peculiar charm to this neighbourhood, which greatly contrasts with the extreme modernity of the opposite bank. 

Shopping districts

Apart from housing antique dealers, tailors and book shops, El Ensanche is the area for department stores. Gran Vía is very popular, and is surrounded by the high class retail outlets. Some of the streets are specialized; Ercilla is dedicated to shoes for instance. Don’t miss Elcano and Elíptica Square; true luxury settled around Idautxu. Fine Jewellery, tailored suits, Haute Couture Clothing… If you are craving for high standards, head to Rodriguez Arias, Alameda de Urquijo Streets or Campuzano Square.
