This place first and foremost is a symbol of the French Revolution. The storming of the Bastille on the 14th July 1789 is often considered as the first act of the French Revolution. The Fortress was then destroyed to make place in 1833 for the Colonne de Juillet. 

This monmument which is 52 metres high, named the genie of Bastille and decorated with engravings was built in hommage to the ment and women who died during this 3 day revolt. 

History hasn't forgotten this infamous place as even today many manifestations and protests begin here. 

The Bastille Opera was opend in 1989 and was built to reduce the pressure on the Garnier Opera. The renovation of the surrounding areas has at the same time given a breath of fresh air to the Bastille area which has become today a trendy area of the city.

Feel free to wander in the small streets in the area, such as the Rue de la Roquette and the Rue de Lappe which mix little designer boutiques, pleasant restaurants and lively bars- its up to you where you stop! 

Close by to the Opèra Garnier, this street is the must visit location for all Sushi addicts! Authentic restaurants often of high quality will more than please fans of Japanese cuisine.

The largest cemetery in Paris is also one of the most famous in the world. Père Lachaise was the confessor of Louis 14th.

This area is symbolic in nature and is also used today as an area of celebration as well as commemorations but more importantly the resting place of many famous people. You can therefore lay a tribute on the tomb of Maria Callas, Champollion, Colette, Yves Montand, Alain Bashung, Marcel Proust and many more in amongst the tombstones and monuments of varying grandeur.

Built for the universal exhibition in 1900, this impressionist building has an impressive glass roof and is now home to many temporary exhibitions. It has become a symbol of modernity, housing cutting edge artists and technical innovations. Today whilst presenting these temporary exhibitions, Le Grand Palais does not forget it's first universal exhibition.

Open daily except Tuesday from 10am until 8pm. Wednesday from 10am until 10pm.

The building of the famous gothic catherdral started in 1160 under the instructions of Bishop Maurise of Sully but wouldn't be completed until 1740. During the revolution the revolutionaries attacked the statues on the kings' gallerie on the outside of the church. In 1843 Viollet le Duc started a massive restauration of the church. Found on Ile de la CitÈ, Notre Dame has a fantastic view of the river Seine. 

It is also possible to climb the towers of the church in order to better examine the statues and gargoiles up close.

The Cathedrale is open every day of the year from 8am until 6.45pm (or 7.15 saturdays and Sundays)

Entry is free. In order to climb the towers you need to acces the church from the left hand side- and it's recommended to be of prime fitness to climb the 387 steps!

In it's Romano-Byzantin style this majestic, white church stands over the city of Paris from the 'Butte Montmartre'. Within an area reknowned for the its artists and its nightlife still manages to attract the crowds. The view over Paris as well as the pleasant paved streets only add to its attraction.

Built to atone for the sins of the Franco-Germanic war of 1870 the church is now one of the mst romantic symbols of the capital. 

You can reach the church by taking the Funiculaire de Montmatre at Abbesses or Anvers Metro station.

The church is open every day from 6am until 11pm (The last visit starts at approx. 10.15pm

In this magnificent theatre you can see Ballets, Operas and Concerts. The ceiling is a Matisse work of art. You can even visit backstage of this architectural marvel. 

Going to a ballet or an opera in the Opera Garnier is a sight to behold!

Montmartre is certainly on of the best known areas of Paris aswell as one of the most visited. Montmatre still evokes the imagery of a typical and popular PAris which has been able to conserve its Village-like atmosphere.
