There are close to 1000 churches in Rome, each one with an interesting history and many of them play a vital role in art history. Numerous architectural styles are represented, Baroque and Renaissance being the most dominant. From St Peters Basilica and the French Saint-Louis Church, to the Sistine Chapel and the Gesu Church, why not stroll around and see what there is to discover?

The basilica is one of the most important religious buildings in catholicism due to its architecture, its meaning, and the amount of pilgrims and tourists that visit it everyday. Saint Peters square is the square of the Basilica and at the centre you will find the obelisk of the Vatican. Saint Peters Basilica is the church of the Vatican State and the eponymous saint is buried here, underneath the altar. It is one of the most visited monuments in the world.

Open from the 1st October to the 31st March, 7am until 6.30pm. From the 1st April to the 30th September, 7am until 7pm.

The Vatican is the smallest state in the world and is the place of residence of the Pope, the Holy See. It is home to eleven museums and the Sistine Chapel with its famous ceiling, a masterpiece created by Michael-Angelo.

The largest of the Roman Forums was fianced by Trajan in 105. A former open public space and the Trajans market, it was the shopping centre of the Antiquity! Today the forum is home to an imperial museum.

This imposing, baroque style fountain dates back to the XVIII century. It is in this fountain that Anita Ekberg bathes in, in La Dolce Vita.

This imposing ampitheatre is to be found at the heart of Rome. It still stands, majestically at the heart of modern and busy Rome. It welcomed between 50 and 75 000 spectators to watch gladiator fights until the middle ages when it was then used for dwellings and artisan stalls. It is today one monument that has been affected by earthquakes.

Open Monday - Friday 8.30am until 4.30pm (until the 15/02), 8.30 until 5pm (15/02 -16/03), 8.30 am until 5.30pm (17/03 -31/03), 8.30am until 7.15pm (01/04 - 31/08), 8.30am until 7pm (01/09 - 30/09) and Saturdays between 9am and 1pm.

The garden is a peaceful place to relax in after visiting the museum, rich with numerous sculptures and paintings. With a small Greek Temple, beautiful vegetation and watering hole, these romantic gardens are the perfect place for a stroll.

This square is famous for its longs steps which lead you to the church Trinità dei Monti (Holy Trinity on Pincio Hill). It is interesting to learn that this square once depended on Spain and France! In the same way, the church also belonged to France. The Spanish Steps are always a great place to meet with friends or to stroll up to the top for a great view of Rome. 

On of the most impressive squares in Rome with it's three fountains, an obelisk and the church Saint Angnese in Agone. Constructed in the XVII century, the square was built on ancient stadium ruins. The statues of the fountain of the four rivers inspired the design of the Trevi fountain.
