Xavier et Hélène Mattis’ farm Auberge de l’Adroit, is a restaurant offering regional specialties, an agency that rents furnished appartments and a farm that produces cheese. The family has been producing dairies for 3 generations, with great know-how, professionalism and good humor. You can also visit the farm and participate in the milking of the cows. It is open all day, and you can see the animals. The products of the farm are sold in the shop La Fermette de Claudine.

From 08:30am : Cheesemaking. From 5:30pm : milking.

This 150 meter high dam was inaugurated in 1953.  The waterfalls are 1790 metres high. Down below, the lake covers a surface of 270 hectares. In 1989, Jean-Marie Pierret painted a big fresco, visible from the D902, on the dam. This fresco, called « The Giant » is not really visible anymore, but it required the work of painters for 3 months. For a great view over the dam, go to the 1808 metre-high panoramic viewpoint. The construction of the dam has been the subject of many disputes, because it required the destruction of the ancient village of Tignes. Many inhabitants left their homes to go to Montpellier or Paris. Nearby, go to Sassière’s nature reserve for a lovely walk around the dam.

From there, you will discover an impressive view of the great Alps, between the Tarentaise and the Maurienne. At the top you will find a shop offering regional products and pictures of Val d’Isère, and a restaurant perfectly located for a refreshing break.

This pass is a great destination for experienced hikers, who will need the necessary equipment against the wind and the cold. Start from the hamlet Le Manchet, 3 kilometres south of Val d’Isère. The climb will take about 2 hours, and you can take a break at the Refuge du Fond des Fours. The descent will also take you approximatley 2 hours. At a remarkable 3000m altitude, the pass offers a beautiful view over the lake, the Maurienne and the Tarentaise. It is also an opportunity to see some chamois.
